What We Do: FAQ

What is a pain management clinic?
Many people suffer from acute and chronic pain syndromes, resulting in many lost hours of productive work and reduced quality of life. After evaluating pain complaints, primary care physicians often refer patients to pain management clinics as the next step. Focusing on the body and mind, clinics like Lake County Pain Management specialize in providing relief via minimally invasive technologies, combined with traditional treatments. Doctors and staff strive to help patients get back to living every day as fully as possible by minimizing or alleviating their pain.

What kinds of conditions does Lake County Pain Management treat?
Common conditions we treat include back and neck problems, radiculopathies, neuralgias, fibromyalgia, and a number of other chronic conditions that cause pain.

How do doctors at Lake County Pain Management determine causes of pain and appropriate treatments?
We take a general history and then focus on the nature of the painful condition that brings the patient to our clinic. We review, with the patient, and existing imaging studies. We then examine the neurological and muscuoskeletal body systems, evaluate the patient's functionality (including posture and gait), and finally palpate for painful areas.

What kinds of therapies does Lake County Pain Management offer?
Epidural steroid injection therapies are the most common treatments and provide diagnostic information as well as therapeutic benefit for the patient. For many lower back and neck conditions, if injections are effective but relief is short-lived, we offer new, minimally invasive treatments available in the RFL (Radiofrequency Lesioning) and Percutaneous disc decompression. These therapies are usually administered in our office, require little or no sedation, and benefits are realized within one to two weeks. Acupuncture is also very effective on its own or in conjunction with other therapies. In addition, Lake County Pain Management provides psychotherapy/biofeedback treatment from a licensed clinical psychologist.

How does Lake County Pain Management evaluate treatments' effectiveness, and what if treatments don't work?
We evaluate patients for improvement in function, sleep, and mood. We'll work with you until your pain is either alleviated or minimized. If we are unable to make any meaningful improvement in your quality of life, we refer you to another physician who offers other treatment options.

Does Lake County Pain Management accept insurance?
